There will be two separate divisions for competition; high school students and community college students.

The competition will have two rounds. The first round will consist of ten regional competitions across the state where participants submit a two minute elevator pitch video and a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation describing their business idea. Deadline to submit for the Cabrillo Regional Competition is 5:00pm on April 24th, 2015.

The finalists from the regional competitions will be invited to participate in the second round which is a statewide business plan pitch competition. A team of experts and student peers will then select the top three teams from across the state for each division who will then be invited to give live pitches to a panel of judges and live audiences around the state at the Small Business Summit on June 19th.


All students must use the 10-slide presentation template.  Changes can be made to the background design or colors and logos can be added.

  • For almost every Business or Marketing Fair, you need to prepare a display board to communicate your work to others. In most cases you will use a standard, three-panel display board that unfolds to be 36" tall by 48" wide.
  • Organize your information like a newspaper so that your audience can quickly follow the thread of your experiment by reading from top to bottom, then left to right. Include each step of your Non-profit project: Abstract, question, History, variables, background research, and so on.

     
    Make sure all papers have a border of a different color.Display Board Layout

    Your Booklet will be on the table for display along with your display board.


  • Use a font size of at least 16 points for the text on your display board, so that it is easy to read from a few feet away. It's OK to use slightly smaller fonts for captions on picture and tables.
     
  • The title should be big and easily read from across the room. Choose one that accurately describes your work, but also grabs peoples' attention.
     
  • A picture speaks a thousand words! Use photos or draw diagrams to present the look and feel of your non-profit.
    • Your name on the display board
    • Pictures of yourself
    • Captions that include the source for every picture or image
    • Acknowledgements of people who helped you
    • Your laboratory notebook (some science fairs want you to have it only during judging)
    • Equipment such as your laboratory apparatus or your invention
